Opened in 2021, Guangzhou Concord Cancer Center is a tertiary cancer hospital located in China–Singapore Guangzhou Knowledge City. The hospital’s Varian ProBeam system began clinical operation in late 2024, enabling highly conformal radiation delivery while helping reduce unnecessary radiation exposure to surrounding healthy tissues.

Intensity-Modulated Proton Therapy
Proton therapy uses the Bragg-peak effect to concentrate radiation within the tumor target while limiting the exit dose, potentially reducing exposure to healthy tissues and critical organs. The hospital combines pencil-beam scanning and intensity-modulated proton therapy with CBCT image guidance and six-dimensional positioning. This approach is particularly valuable for selected pediatric tumors and tumors located near critical structures such as the brainstem, spinal cord, or optic pathways.

Bone and Soft-Tissue Tumor Care
For bone and soft-tissue tumors, the hospital combines surgical oncology, pathology, imaging, systemic therapy, and precision radiotherapy through multidisciplinary care. Proton therapy may be evaluated for selected spinal, sacral, or skull-base chordomas and chondrosarcomas located near critical neurological structures, helping improve target coverage while limiting radiation exposure to the spinal cord, brainstem, and other healthy tissues.
